Hoosier Riverwatch is a program of the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, Watershed Planning and Assessment Branch. The program began in Indiana to increase public awareness of water quality issues and concerns by training volunteers to monitor stream water quality.

The mission of Hoosier Riverwatch is:
To involve the citizens of Indiana in becoming active stewards of Indiana's water resources through watershed education, water monitoring, and clean-up activities. Hoosier Riverwatch is a state-sponsored water quality monitoring initiative.

The Benton County SWCD participates in this program by sampling 21 sites around the county 2 times each year.  We test the samples for nitrite/nitrate, phosphate, temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, and turbidity.

We would like to encourage local residents to get involved in this water sampling effort.  If you are interested in volunteering to help us sample and analyze the quality of our streams, please contact Leslie Fisher at the Benton County SWCD office.
